Help! Return Pump Problem!

Lets try to narrow it down...

Take the pump out and put in a brute can with no plumbing or the sponge attached... If it makes excessive noise the pump is bad (I can't hear mine over the skimmer pump)

If doesn't make excessive noise something isn't plumbed properly

Looks like I may have an answer to my problem.

I placed the mag 12 in a brute trash can filled with water and it was just as loud. I may have a bad pump or impeller. I will send it back to the online vendor and get a replacement. Let's see if that fixes it. (Crossing fingers) :bigeyes:

I received a mag 18 from dfs that came with a cracked magnet on the impeller. Talk about noisy! They sent out a new impeller next day shipping and I used that pump for 7 years.

Update

Good news"¦Received the replacement pump Friday. Tested the pump in a Brute trash can for noise and lo and behold, not a sound.

Hooked it all up to my system and the only noise was the vibration from the hard PVC directly attached to the pump. Fixed this by removing about a foot of PVC from the pump to a union above and replaced it with 1" vinyl hosing. Sounds perfect"¦the only noise coming from the system is the skimmer and two Mp40's when they are on.
