I just replaced my filter sock with a brand new one
and it instantly produced a milky substance into
sump. I immediately removed , but clouded tank
pretty bad.

Skimmer foaming like crazy .
Any thoughts

The skimmer foaming like crazy is a good sign though as it shows the skimmer is pulling it out. I might me an idea to run some carbon for a couple of days though.

Now the "milky" water is coming from my skimmer overflow.

I put in new carbon and am watching.

Anyone out there?

Never heard of a sock having anything on them. Could it be you just disturbed sediments in the sump?

Guess a good thing to rinse those things first huh?

It could be that there was some precipitate [harmless] in the sump and the restart on the pump kicked it up. Bizarre, to say the least.

You should always rinse a new sock, or even a used one. Tap water is fine, because you can wring it out or shake it out like you might with a paint brush. (Swing it hard in a downwards motion outside.)

If it is microbubbles, you'd see them rise and pop. You won't get microbubbles through a filter sock, as those are known to trap them. You stated it was a milky substance, like there was something on/in the sock's material.

This sock is a new product to me, it is
not cloth,, kind of a Plastic /styro feeling
material. But it will not be going back in.
What I'm tryng to solve is the Coffee percolator
sound that appears to be caused by the water
level rising in the sock (apparently due to
restricted flow through sock caused by sump wall
skimmer side, etc.). It rises up to bottom of pipe
dumping into sump, then surges.

I don't like the micro bubbles that escape from the nylon
'mesh' bags, but would like to eliminate the brewing
coffee sound.
