Help With Crab Molt

I have a large, bigger than my fist, dardanus megistos, it's the hairy red crab with the white spots. He is in a 120g by himself. He buries his molts so he can go back and eat them later but I have been taking them out of the tank thinking they would foul the water, but would they? They bury them in the ocean and I realize the ocean is much bigger than his tank but they wouldn't go back later to eat something that is decaying so would they be ok to leave in? Are the shells just some sort of calcium carbonate? Are they going to smell after awhile or just remain the same?

I leave all of my shrimp molts in the tanks, they have never caused a problem and if he eats them he is getting some minerals or calcium he needs.

I leave shrimp molts in too because they are small but this guy is really big.
