help with hammer corral

Yep, it's those daily, weekly, monthly fluctuations you're trying to avoid. 2-part like capn or myself prescribed is best dosed daily. That way your levels never fluctuate drastically like they have been just dosing weekly. It's still the alkalinity I'd be concerned with. Your corals will suffer much more/faster with swings in alk. Again, baking soda is all you need for that. The Kent product is basically overpriced baking soda in a nice bottle btw. ;) Just be sure to use that calculator whenever you dose. :)

dont know if its been mentioned yet but you have to bring the alk up slow.

good point
the calculator we mentioned will handle that for the OP, Brassmonkey.
It gives the maximum daily dosages along with the amounts needed to bring the chemical from the existing level to the preferred level.

I have a hammer in my 55 gallon fuge. I'm babysitting a few corals for a friend while he sets up his new tank. His double headed coral was fine for a few days and then one morning one head was just a coral skeleton like yours. The other head, while not as bad, was retracted. My hammer was just fine. Now three days later the "bad" head is coming back. I put it down to moving from one tank to another even though it was acclimated well. I think it was just unhappy at being moved. Water parameter had nothing to do with it in my case.
Just a thought.
