Help with hammer

Any updates?

Have you added any new coral recently and maybe brought in a hitchhiker? I had a similar problem with my torch - it was doing great, then wasn't. I tried moving it around the tank and finally ended up dipping (CoralRx) it as a last resort. When I dipped it I and found that it had a ton of Euhpyllia eating flatworms - check out this post.

Strangely enough, I hadn't added any new coral for months before this happened, so I don't know when/how the EEFWs were introduced. Unlike in the post above, I couldn't see the flatworms until I dipped the coral and they came off/out of it.

That is a beautiful hammer - I hope you can figure out what's going on with it!! Please keep us posted!

Thank you!

No real change yet. There is a few polyps coming out a tiny bit. I haven't added anything in months. I ruled out a flow issue because I have a 3 head frag that is in my frag tank that looks about the same( its plumbed into my system). I do have a frogspawn in the frag tank that is doing great though. Maybe I'll try the coral rx dip and see if that does anything

A pic of the hammer today

I haven't tried the dip yet. All I have is the coral Rx, is there any other dip I should be looking into?

I use CoralRx and have had good success with it. It revived my Aussie torch after it got flatworms... I double the dose, and instead of using a powerhead in a bucket I will just constantly move the water manually (carefully stir w/ wooden spoon) in whatever container I'm using to dip (depends on the size of the coral). Given the size of your hammer you may have to use a bucket. . .

Other folks like other dips - here's a thread and another one.

Hope this helps!

So the past few days have been looking better for the hammer! It's starting to open more every day.

I woud double check your phosphates with another testkit. I put new LR in that spiked my phosphates thru the roof. My hammer colony was just like yours, just the tips showing...Couldnt figure out what was wrong for the longest until i finally tested phosphates. Couple water changes with gfo in place got my colony to open up again...

Pic of today. There's a few other heads in the back that are starting to get puffy too

Hey Drew|117 - any updates? Is your hammer doing better?? I am curious if you ever determined the cause of the unhappiness.... :spin1:

The hammer is slowly getting better and better and it's starting to color up again. I still have no idea why it went south. I'll try and get a pic later on today when the lights are on.
