Help with keeping the peace

I just got a Copper banded Buttterfly today and my Scopos Tang is really messing with it. Apparently the tang doesn't like it. Will this pass or should I just try to sell or trade the butterfly?

What size tank?

You can try putting the tang into the sump for a week untill the butterfly settles in.

I've put pictures of other tangs on the outside of the tank to confuse the bully.

I will try that, would hate to get rid of either plus the Butterfly is kicking some Aptasia arse!
It's a 150gl tank Eric. I do have another small tank that I cod put the tang in for a day or two if need be... Can't we all just get along?!?

This is typical territorial behavior for a tang. I agree separation for a short period may disrupt the aggression and allow the CBB settle in to its new tank. Unfortunately, CBBs don't tolerate too much aggression and could perish if the aggression continues.

Continue to keep a close watch and act accordingly.

I would start by taping a mirror to the side of the tank and that frequently occupies tangs. Also, keep the tang extra well fed for a couple of days. My next step would be to put the cbb into an acclimation box made of eggcrate so the tang gets used to having it around without being able to attack it.

The good news is that, given these two fish are not competitors for food, I think you have a decent chance of the tang losing interest in the cbb.

The bad news is that the cbb is difficult to acclimate to aquarium life and may not make it with just small amounts of beating from the tang.

You really need to quarantine fish and get them settled into captive life before putting them into a competitive situation for food. I would feed your cbb live blackworms to help it settle in.
