When I bought mine it was bleached white like that as well, it also used to really deflate and close up at night. If I recall correctly it took a few weeks for it to color up completely. I've it under 250W MH and my clown feeds it from time to time with food it catches. Just to give you a little warning: it only took about 2 years to get to this size which is a 12" disk or 18"including its tentacles.

Okay, mine is about 6" in diameter and I have had it for a few months. During this time, the anemone would withdraw from time to time - almost looking like it was turning inside out. It would come back on its own and be fine for a while.

During the past week or so, it really withdrew, to the point that night before last there were no tentacles visible except for on one end. Overnight, it looks like it's starting to open back up, but the center looks really soft and the clowns are rubbing pieces of it off (they float away to be siphoned to the sump).

Is it dying, dead, or just going through a spell? Oh, when I bought it, my LFS said that anemones do all kinds of weird stuff when they go to the bathroom - that she has had people flush perfectly good anemones. Is the white stuff anemone poop?

Thanks

You really want to feed your anemone meaty foods like silverside or fresh shrimp to help him improve. The mysis is not that great for a bleached anenome.

Either cover it with a basket to help it feed without the clown bothering it, or feed the anenome and keep chasing the clown away with tongs or something.

If pieces of your anenome are coming off, it's probably dead/dying. Pull the pieces or whole anenome out and smell it, if you almost pass out, it's ready to be flushed. Don't leave it in your tank to die and disintegrate, you'll end up with a disaster.

You really should seperate your clowns from the anenome if it's still alive and trying recouperate.

My Sebae anemone eats just about anything...silverside, brine shrimp, PE mysis, regular mysis, plankton and whatever the 2 clowns give it.

My story is exactly like whatcaneyedo. Mine started as the size of a tea cup and is now bigger than a dinner plate.

Once your Sabae's were healthy and eating, how quickly do they grab the food and eat it? I sit there for 10 minutes shooing the clown away, but the Sabae just doesn't seem to eat the food. He otherwise seems healthy. I tried a piece of silverside again tonight between 1/8" and 1/4". He's really sticky. The clown kept pulling the food out, and dropping it on the Anemone, and the Anemone seemed to be pulling it towards his mouth, but then doesn't eat it. Thanks, Pam

I dipped the anemone out with a large plastic spoon and smelled it. There was no discernible smell at all... definitely not a dead or rotting smell.

Update... another day has passed and every time my clown would try to swim into what's left of my Sebae, there would be a cloud of anemone stuff "poofing" up from the animal.

So, tonight when I was doing my water change, I moved the anemone to a pail of water to see if it makes it or not.

I think the Kent Marine RX-P medicine I was using to treat my fish for ich might have killed the anemone, even though it is supposed to be safe for inverts.

Oh well... life goes on...
