Help with SPS Colony Needed.

I ordered some pieces from Diver's Den on Liveaquaria.com and and the package arrived Tuesday AM and was the first time I have ordered from them. The other pieces I ordered, a Reverse Superman, Montipora Setosa, and ORA Wooly Green Acropora all look great.

However, the Branching Acropora Coral Fuji (acropora exquisita) arrived packed in several bags, but this larger piece, about 5-6 inches must have punctured the bag and about half the water was drained. I acclimated the piece and placed it in my DT.

Now the reason I need help. The piece is without color and pretty much white, and I see no PE at all. I light acclimated as is suggested on their website, and at present have it about middle level. I have Kessil LED's on my 75 gallon, 2-10K's and 2-20K's, along with 450nm LED strips.

What can I do to help save this coral, assuming it made it through the shipping process being half out of water? Looking for help to save this large colony. Thanks!!
:)

Here is a picture of the coral in my DT. I did not save the picture from the website.

It looks like there is still tissue, and i see some polyp extension. What color was it supposed to be? I think as long as you don't fry it with light, it should recover. I would keep it somewhere low and as little light as possible for a few days, then get it a little more light but still low, probably the bottom of the tank, for the next week or so.

Once it starts gaining color, you can start moving it further up. The key is to put it in place and let it heal. Constantly moving it around is not good. Just make sure it's still getting good flow the entire time. Good luck.

That acropora isn't dead yet, just leave it on the bottom for weeks.I bought several colonies that had been in a basement sump with no light but an algae scrubber for weeks. They were all totally white but i trusted the guy that he wouldn't sell me skeletons.I still smelled them when i got home, yup smelled like living acropora. They spent months on the bottom. All lived and returned to there former glory.

Keep us posted. I have seen corals in this condition make great comebacks. Sps are more durable than one would think. Good luck.

Sounds like you've got some good advice here. Two years ago, I lost quite a few pieces when one of my seams began to leak and I had to move everything into temporary containers while I took care of the problem. I broke off a dead sunset milli frag from a rock when I moved everything back in... this rock faces the back of my tank now... a few weeks ago I noticed that I have a small sunset milli there now with 8 to 10 white branchlets and buds! It is amazing with time, and the right conditions, how they can bounce back. The hardest part will be having patience to leave it alone long enought to allow it to recover.

I would also target feed it once or twice a week sith some oyster feast or roti reast (or whatever you can get designed to feed SPS) That way while it's recovering you can get it some nutrition.

Post weekley pics please of it's progress.

Call divers den and tell them what happened. They are the best in the business and will give you a refund

Thanks, I just called them and informed them of the situation. They told me to call them at the end of next week and let them know how the coral is doing, and to target feed a couple times a week.

They were very nice and I am sure hoping this piece recovers, I have a place picked out for it. :)

I also just placed another order a few minutes ago for a couple of sps pieces from Divers Den. Nice knowing that they are helpful and really stand behind their offerings. Never knew that they had a guarantee on corals, I thought it was only on fish.

Thanks again for you suggestion to call them, I will post more pictures in a day or two. This forum is great!!

Since polyps are out, I wouldn't handle the coral anymore for at least a couple of weeks. Those dead parts are fine, and in time new growth should cover it. Just keep a close eye on it for stn that may develop to rtn.

I would just leave it alone, give it some time.Make sure it is getting some good flow down there on the sand bed.
