My name is Tom. I'm very interested in starting a reef tank -- 90 or 120 gallon. I've been to two dealers and of course, as salesmen, each of them has tried to sell me their product. Can somone inform me as to what are the good products and what are the products in starting a reef system. For example, who makes the best protein skimmer, or the best halide light? What constitutes good? I'm eager to learn about the products and what would work best for me.

you are asking alot as many ppl have their own fav. items. as for best skimmer deltec, bubble king, ect. however your looking at around 1k for those. ASM skimmer and euro reef skimmer work great and cost much less. lighting is also the same way. if i was you i would go to the lighting filtration forum and do some research on the items you are looking at buying. also

What animals do you want to keep? Many anemones and some corals demand very high lighting levels. Other animals want much less light.
