Help!!

morphiii

Let us know what the LFS said about your parameters. This is a strange situation that I would like to be aware of.

morphii,

By ANY chance did you mix your saltwater using a bag of road salt that you got from your State Highway Admin friend?

Did you use RO/DI water? Is your membrane & filters working correctly. Chlorine or chlormines will also do that to fish.

Joyce

true if you didnt dechlorinate it but it shouldnt be instant..

Unfortunately, I killed off one of my first fish in my tank in 2000 with this problem. The fish was dead within an hour before I got it figured out. That's why I remembered as the symptoms sounded exactly the same.

HTH,
Joyce

The fish started struggling right away, it just took an hour to die. I could tell right away something was wrong. It's similar to a person being thrown into a situation where they were gasping and couldn't breathe because of an very bad air quality issue.

when i was a noob i put damsels in my newly setup tank and nitrites killed them instantly. swam down and floated back up dead within 30 seconds..
way too early to add fish...definitely have your lfs test it..strange story.
Nirites did not kill them unless they were over about 300 times the lethal dose for a fresh water fish which is virtually impossible.

"Stray voltage will usually not bother a fish unless it finds a ground and becomes stray current. If it did you would feel it.SG jump or ammonia are still likely.".....CORRECT, but our guys been dripping them for now what feels like 3 days...with the tank water
.....the water in the bucket is the same as the tank now.....but yet they still live.....
morph......have you thought about taking up gardening instead?
:) Frustrating, but I think we"re not getting accurate information on tests and possible sg. But Who knows.

i took it to several lfs and tested many times..
those were the only params out of line.
they were high.
that, or the mystery death that this poster is having as well.
anythings possible i guess...

well an update.

I put the two damsels in a quarantine tank for the past 2 days.

Got a new canister filter with UV sterilizer yesterday.

I will be getting my skimmer today, I plan to run it a bit and release my damsels shortly.

Crossing my fingers.

I just put the 2 damsels in my tank together with 5 turbo snails and 5 hermit crabs.

Guess what. Nobody died!

At least now yet. The damsels are doing fine and eating, the mysterious poison/toxin/voltage/diatom/lack of oxygen or whatever, is gone for now.
