Heteractis Malu Pink - Real colour?

flakey

Member
Hi all,
I'm not very familiar with Heteractis Malu's but i saw a picture of one for sale from a website and am wondering if this is the real colours or whether it will remain this colour or turn brown once healthy. It may have been dyed or just lost colours from shipping. Would like some advice before i consider buying it.

thanks

The color looks suspicious but would be very nice if it really is true.
I have never seen one like that but then what do I know?!

Not dyed, but a little bleached. The color may darken or intensify. There's another RC member that has one just like it.

That's my malu that bradleym linked....................if you'res darkens up & turns out to be red with yellow tentacles, that's a great find.

I haven't seen any like mine in 6-7 years & at the time only a few came through from the Reefer Madness when they were in business.

Keep us updated & good luck with it.

What kind of lighting do malu's prefer? I have a tank with 6 BTA's and hopefully a h.mag in a 100g tank
Do you think there will be any problems? My BTA's hang around mid to top of the tank and i would like to place this one on the sandbed (if it's possible).
I also don't want to end up with a brown malu, which is why it's a bit of a headache...
Here's my tank, i want to place him in the bottom right corner. What do you think my chances are ??? I do know they wonder...

This isn't something you're going to want to hear, but I wouldn't put it in the same tank with other anemones.................they are a bit touchy & difficult.

After Mags & Gigs I'd put Malus next in difficulty in keeping healthy long term.

Thanks for the nice comments bradleym:)

Hi Ed,
As well as being difficult, do you mean they will fight other nems if within close proximity?

I don't know that............I'm just saying it's a risk to put any two nems in the same tank. Some people have done multiple species, but it seems more people have had problems.

My malu has been touchy over the years(always the only nem in the tank) & a lot of times I had no idea why. On top of that that the nem is probably a bit bleached, so it's going to need some TLC.

Maybe you could put it in a dedicated tank temporarily until it's at 100% & then try it with the bubble tips. Or you could put it in with the other nems, but have a back up plan for putting it in a dedicated tank if it struggles.

I'm just trying to make you aware of some possible pitfalls before they happen.

i think i'll give this one a miss. i only like it due to the colour. i'm going to stick to trying to get a healthy h.mag as ultimately thats what i'm after. Thanks the advice all...
