Hey "pearlscale" butterfly aficionados

Thanks everyone for the replies, much appreciated! So the reason I was asking the question is this. Maybe it's kind of corny, but I wanted to try having 3 pearlscale type butterflies in the 240 - one with red (paucifasciatus), one with orange (xanthurus), and one with yellow (mertensii).

Not corny at all. Aesthetic appeal is a big part of why we all got into this hobby, no? I dropped a bundle of cash yesterday to switch out my rainbow bubbletip anemones for RBTAs that match my clownfish, so I totally understand. :D

Pyramids are great, but if I was to get them, then I would get at least 4 and I want only one butterfly. I have had my eye on a pearscale for a while now... Dunno...
Maybe I'll just go with my original plan, and get the Chaetodon mitratus that I have been wanting for so long now.

 That's awesome!

:D The friend who got my rainbows thought I was nuts at first to give up a coveted BTA morph for some common ole rose bubbletips, but when she saw my bluestripe cinnamon pair being hosted by them, she said, "Yeah, now I understand." ;)

I like your cousins there--they look great together!

That's exactly what I have. Mean little bastidges--they fought so hard during pairing that the female permanently injured her jaw--but so pretty.

So true on the aesthetic appeal and you do not have to invest big bucks to do it.
Great idea Peter; it actually brings out the beauty of each fish.

I think I may have accidentally made a pair. My mertensii and Xanthurus are never more than 6" away from each other, and often even touch each other...

Well accidental congrats on the makings of a pair... I know you haven't had the best luck when trying to make pairs happen

Thanks, yes, so true... but now the issue... will they go nuts when I try to introduce a paucifasciatus?

Mean is correct. They seem to HATE my chrysurus angel... and leave scars on him all the time :( Hopefully things get better once he's bigger!

Everything in this hobby is a calculated(or not so) risk. I lost ALL my fish while treating with CP because of secondary infections. Quite a expensive and heartbreaking learning experience to say the least. All caused by not QTing one fish

Would an Anemone be safe with a Pearlscale? Not sure I'm going to try but it's one of the fish that hooked me in this hobby 20 some years ago. I have a mix reef with a couple angels so I'm more about the fish than the corals:). But I like to have a couple cheaper sps in the tank so it doesn't look baron. The anemone is the only deal breaker.

Wow congrats, that is amazing to have a BF pair!!
I know my mertensii was a tough fish and could hold his own (or harrasse) just about anyone of equal size. I'd be a little worried about introducing a paucifasciatus.
