I've emailed a couple times but so far haven't had a reply. Oh well you live and learn. I will never cut corners in this hobby again. What really gets me I could have purchased better stuff and had a retrofit.

In looking into this further, I see at least one brand of DE bulbs that specifically supports a M102 ballast.

Iwasaki 20k & 50k DE bulbs.

that looks like it may be the case... though those are the DE versions of the SE's i pointed out earlier. good luck finding them though, i've only seen the SE's for sale.

also, the bulb may be a funky size - the fact that they specify the R7S base is suspicious, as that's the base that ALL of the 150 DE's use. the 300 & 500 watt halogens use the same end piece size as well, but the length of the bulbs are different, so a socket designed for one won't work with the other without serious modification.

warboc's ballast and the ballast that cooked are not the same.


The one that cooked... looks like the starting cap overheated.
