High Ca and Mg in Tunze Reef Excel Salt?

We are changing the labeling to say you MUST mix all the salt at one time. The salt is very dry, has a long transport and settles and the only way to get proper results is to mix it all at once.

That why i said we need smaller bags..not everyone needs to make 60 gallons...to me 10-15gallon packs are the best option.

We are working on this problem, right now it just comes down to what portion size is best 5 gals, 10 gals, 15 gals. We are leaning towards a portion which would mix about 6 gals at 1.023 so our osmolator bucket could be used as a mixing container. There are some logistics to work out with the new packaging but this change will be done next year.

I would like to see smaller bags, but 15-25g would be better than 6 IMO. I think most people have the space to mix up 15-25g but not 60g. I like to keep 20g on hand so mixing up 6g every time I need some water would be a bit of a hassle. I suppose I could just make a brine out of the 63g bag. This is an option right, or do you not recommend making a brine?

I had not considered the option of making a brine, the salt does have a bio iodine complex and vitamins and I am not sure that these would survive to use in a brine. I don't want to reveal too much but the planned solution we have would make mixing any amount fairly easy.

Yes, that would be the perfect option, some sort of 'blister' packaging that would allow you to mix up packets in 5 gallon increments. You're still buying a bucket, but could mix up any amount you want.

Hi Rodger!
I think a 6 Gal Size would be perfect! I have not tried the Salt, But I will if you make them that size! A smaller would be great also! I change 4 Gal's weekly in my SPS Nano :-)
Thanks for everything!

...and for those of us who make up 40 - 45 gallons at a time, a 20 gallon package in addition to a 5 or 6 gallon package would be ideal! :) Otherwise we'd need to open 8 or 9 of the 5 gallon blisters to do a water change. (Or risk imbalanced elements if removing a certail volume of salt mix from a 62 gallon bucket, like the current situation.)

So what would you advise for people that can't mix the whole 64gallon bag? Would putting all the salt in a bucket and shake it around work? I only can mix up 30g at the max currently.

Try to mix it the best you can, the bags seem far less affected than the bulk buckets or bulk boxes and I suspect it is because it settles on its side and you pour from the top so you get a far more even blend than you would scooping from the top of a bulk box or bucket.

So I would recommend (as Roger stated) that, if you don't use the whole bucket, to throughly mix the salt so that you don't have the same issues. Unfortunately for me, I have 2/3 of a bucket that is not useable :-(
Of course you can use it. does not matter that the readings are low or high. just add additional ca/kh after a few days to get the levels up.

Not sure why hobbyist are so anal about getting the exact levels anyway.
To me the most important things is the quality than slightly low or high levels of ca/kh,

Nothing yet, it will take a while to prepare the packaging and get everything ready, I wouldn't expect the new packaging to be ready until this summer. It is part of a larger project.
