High effeciency washing machine and filter socks

I replaced a standard top loading washing machine with one of the new "High efficiency" washing machines, and my filter socks come out hardly cleaner than they go in!
Anyone having success washing filter socks with these low water machines?
Or am I going to be washing these by hand?
Thnx

I wash mine in a high efficiency machine. No problems. I run the machine with no soap and a little bleach before I wash the socks. Then wash with a bit of bleach, extra rinse.

I cut the little tabs off on the inside of the plastic ring and flip them inside out. They come out clean but smell of bleach. I run and extra cycle with extra rinse and let them sit a few days. All good

I use to use bleach. Stopped that and for some years been using hydrogen peroxide with two extra rinse cycles in our front loader. They come out very clean and no bleach residue. Air dry and ready to use.

Don't think you will have any issues with using bleach/vinegar, etc. Just don't use detergent. I run mine with the sanitize cycle on my HE washer. Then let air dry. Does have a slight bleach odor, but hasn't had any affect on my tank mates. I ALWAYS let air dry well in advance of putting back in the tank. I usually wash when I am down to my last replacement (not the one in the tank but the spare). That was I have at least 2 solid weeks of air drying before need.

I don't use filter socks on a regular basis, but when I do I just throw them in the wash with the rest of my whites. No problem.
