High Nutrient Macro Algae/Sea Grass Reef

Very nice. What is the green macro in bottom left. It’s branches look like a Gorgonion.
Hi Patrick, the brighter green macro is caulerpa cupressoides and the darker green behind it is codium.
Good to hear from you, how have you been?

I have been on high octane for about 60:days. I started up Aquaculture Ranch again and am looking for a part time apprentice to help with husbandry of tooooo many systems.

I am partnering with Aquadome to display and sell designer rock. I have three tier/skill levels that represent sustainable cultivation in grow-out systems in my home.
Tier 1: Easy
Soft coral and colorful macro.

Tier 2
Accomplished reefer to expert
Yellow & Orange Sponge combined with Red or Green macro . And a Gorgonion., depending on requested design.

Expert only
NPS Gorgonions with Orange or Yellow Sponge

Good for you Patrick and may God bless your endeavor!

Dawn, your tank looks incredible, as always. Any sign of the jawfish? I also never had luck with pearly's or yellowheads, as most found the tiniest holes to jump out of my tank no matter what I did. I had a dusky jawfish that was awesome for many years. It was one of my favorite fish. So much personality. It also did a much better job of moving rubble around his burrow than the other species.

Hi Kevin, good to hear from you! Yeah, I am really pleased with the tank. It just seems to stay very consistent and everything is doing well. That is except the jawfish, I had not seen it since the 2nd week I got it. George (griss) also said that he had good luck with dusky jawfish but not with pearly or yellowhead jawfish. I will definitely keep that in mind. Not for now since Guardian the ywg seemed intimidating toward the last yellowhead. Maybe 2 bottom dwellers are not a good idea.

One of my dream set ups that may or may not happen was to have a few bluespotted jawfish tank. Right now, that's on the back burner. I have too many tanks to maintain, at least, until I retire. I'd also like to have a tank just for Panamic Barnacle blennies. Maybe that would all be one set up, I don't know. I'm dreaming right now. I've always been fascinated with both species.

A tank with bluespotted jawfish and panamic barnacle blennies would be very cool. I absolutely adored my panamic barnacle blenny and have been on the look out ever since mine died. For a small fish they live a rather long time, or at least mine did. Barney was the coolest fish!
Bluespotted jawfish are so beautiful. I heard that they can be challenging and their price tag has always scared me off. I would definitely follow if you got those!

Love it! Do you prune the algae or is it pretty well maintained by the fish/crabs?
I wish the inhabitants did the pruning for me but they don't. Yesterday I removed a Hagan ice-cream tub's worth of algae! I hated to do it but just threw it in the compost because I don't have anyone to give it away to. I do that about every month month and a half.

I have made some additions to my tank in the past week. First I visited a friend who is aquaculturing coral as a retirement project. His systems are beautiful for both SPS and LPS. He saw the video of my tank and noted that even though I said I love torches that I did not have any. He said that I could pick any one I wanted of the ones he had in exchange for some of the sinularia that I was going to frag. I ended up coming home with not only a beautiful torch but also a paly frag and a small goni on a frag plug!

That got me really excited about my tank, and since I had been thinking about getting more fish anyway, that spurred me on. Especially when I tested my nutrients and found my nitrates dangerously low. Hopefully adding 2 cardinalfish, 2 firefish gobies and a small female fairy wrasse will help with the nitrates, while adding activity and interest to the tank.

I will post some pics after the new fish have settled in.
