Hippo nipping at clam mantle

I just added a crocea on Saturday and have a small hippo in the tank as well. Yesterday night when I looked up close I noticed that he was nipping at the clam's mantle a little bit. Nothing extreme but enough for the clam to close up a bit. I didn't think that hippos were knowns for this. Do you think that it is b/c it is something new in the tank or perhaps there is algae on the clam and should this subside?

Thanks.

some fish just anomolously nip. Try to distract him with other foods- ie- nori, flake, etc. Keep him well fed and the chances of huim becoming a long term nipper are more in your favor.
tangs have been reported to actually eat some corals!

Yeah, its weird, I saw my baby hippo dive-bombing my clam once too. However, it only happened a couple of times and has not turned into a recurring problem. Put some nori on a clip in the tank to distract him.
