I have a juvenile blue hippo tang which has been behaving really skidish lately. for one it has been hiding in a small crevice during daylight hours which it has never done before in fact it used to come to the glass and almost greet me, now it seems to be fearing me. Also when it isn't hiding it will come out and make really abrupt, fast, changes in direction. Furthermore it will also swim up and down the glass in one corner in a very repetitive motion. All my water parems are stable and there is no obvious signs of parasites on the fish. Im also getting even more worried as he is beginning to miss feedings because hes hiding or acting wierd. Whats going on? this fish used to have such a good personality. total change in behavior?

My hippos have been acting like that the three years I've had them. I figured by now they wouldn't be scared of my presence, but I still have to creep up to my tank. They are very fast swimmers and do dart around like that. If it is missing feedings, though, that could be a bad sign. Try soaking the food in garlic. Do you use algae sheets at all. I feed mine a couple of times a day with a different variety of foods and they are always little piggies.

i have been dosing garlic into their food and i try to feed alge shets but the hippo never touches it in fact my clowns seem to like it. so i guess my real question is is this behavior change a precursor or symptom of a disease or parasite in the fish. like i said the behvior has been a drastic change. i have had the fish about 3 or 4 years and it never hid or feared me, or missed a feeding before.
