I have had a 5 to 6 inch hippo tang in my 210 reef for several years and every night after feeding for about fifteen minutes this fish goes to the surface and takes in a big gulp of air. Then he swims off releasing little air bubbles. This is not really a big problem but at least once or twice every night he will make a big enough splash to make water run over and down the outside of the glass and I find myself cleaning salt off the outside of the glass. Hence the problem. Not fun every day. Any thoughts?

My hippo did that also except he would gulp air and then swallowed it. It made him swim funny for a while. I"m guessing he had a swim bladder issue. I remember at that time my tank wasn't at it's best and after feeding him with lots of nori soaked on zoe and zoecon and doing partial water changes to improve his environment he stopped as his health got better.

Thanks lildraken, I have had this fish for quite some time and he has pretty much done this from day one. I am pretty much obsessed with tank husbandry so the little stream of salt or two down the side of my tank drives me crazy. He stops shortly after feeding and don't do it anymore till next day. I had a hippo for four years. His first 1- 1 1/2 years he was kinda shy. But he developed that same habit along with others.
He would go to the surface to gulp some air, dive to the bottom and release a air bubble or two and then chase the bubble to the surface.
Now most times he would chase the bubble down or more like up re-gulp it and continue this multiple times.
He was such a blast.
But he did it when he was happy and he would do it for a while.
