I've seen lots of 90 gallon tanks with hippo tangs In them....can they really do well in 90's? I want one, but I thought they get too big....my LFS sells them REALLY small like 3/4"-1".

I have seen hippo tangs as small as a damsel. I had one like that in a 92 for a couple years, then he moved to a 120 then to a 180. Then I sold him when he looked too big in my 180. They can grow over a foot.

They grow fast, so I would say not good for a 90 long term.

If you don't mind giving him up down the road than go for it. If you get one under 2'' you can enjoy him for a few years. I just picked up a 2.5'' that i have going through hypo right now and he's got some amazing coloration.

Where would he go?

Many people offer them up for sale within their own club. I know of a couple people from around me who have sold larger hippos to people with bigger system.

It is generally a good idea to buy fish for the system you have.
