Hmm.. we haven't had some shaking in a long time

Hopefully the earthquake isn't bad enough to where we WOULDN'T worry about the tanks. If my house falls off the foundation, the tank will be the last of my worries.

Not if its the BIGEST ONE! No one in their right mind will have reef tanks on their mind. The only tank we will be worried about is a tank full of drinking water. We should always have about a months worth , they say.
I personally like having plenty of drinking water at home, and some in the car as well. The problem with the one in the house is that if the hole house falls; thier goes all the water. I plan on buying a Gang box( for tools) and filling it with water, canned food, med supplies and a change of clothing for my family.

Thats a good idea. I have the same problem. My foundation and/or the soil is likely to liquify in a big quake. It survived the 94 quake, which knocked a bunch of houses in Fillmore off their foundations. A direct hit will leave almost the whole town homeless.

We will have to live in the garage for a while.

Back up power!!! generator. Extra tube and bins incase the worst happens.

I've been though two major quakes.....having lots of water and salt on hand is a good idea. If you don't have salt mix on hand get some. Water splashing out of the tank was my only problem

my two 55 gal drums are in my storage garage that is really not under the house, so even if the house collapsed my storage garage would survive with 110gal of freshwater..I think thats enough drinking water for a lil while ;)

anyways, I think you are overanalyzing all this...be prepared, get back up power generator if you are that worried...like we all have been saying, if its THAT big, our reef will be least of concerns..

Anyways, as you saw from my link, plenty of lil quakes here and there to loosen the tension in the faults...besides, big quakes tend to hit during transition from hot to cold weather...like winter times when we get hot dates and cold nights...

last if you are THAT worried, get insurance...oh yah, 15% deductable on a 1mil house means I need 150,000 in damage... if that happends, I think my house would be a total loss LOL...
