Hi need HOB skimmer recommendation for a 55gal mixed tank with the following:

Fish:
(1) yellow tang, (1) Maroon clownfish, (1) lawnmower blenny

Invertebrates:
(1) small carpet anemone, (1) cleaner shrimp, (1) Coral Banded

Corals:
(1) Frogspawn, (1) Torch, (3) Acan Frags, (1) Galaxea Frag, (1) Kenya Tree frag, (1) Pulsing Xenia frag and some Ricordias and Zoas.

These are the options I'm considering: Reef Octopus BH 2000, Aquamaxx HOB-1 and the Eshopps psk-100h. My tank is in the bedroom so I need it to be as silent as possible.

Please advice or comment.

Thanks

I had a BH1000 on a 40b and think that it does a great job. I don't think that the noise is unlike any other HOB skimmer, you just have to be sure that you add the silencer that came with it.
If even that is too noisy, try adding a second silencer. At one time I had added in a second DIY silencer to mine. I put it in line with the one supplied and found that the sound is almost undetectable.
I made it with an empty container with screw on lid, used 3/8 rubber tubing for the in/out and filled the bottle with cotton balls and filter floss. At first I used 1/4 tubing but it restricted the airflow to much.
I don't use it anymore as the tank is in the garage and noise is not a factor, but it did work.

The Eshopps is very quiet and I get no micro bubbles. It comes with a sponge for the outlet tube just in case, but I don't use it as I don't have bubbles. Like I said, I'm a big Eshopps fan...

I have used the following in my 80g FOWLR rimless and 75g reef tank. Below is the order with best performance.
Bermuda BPS-5C skimmer rated upto 500g in sump
Reef octopus bh-2000 hob
Reef octopus bh-1000 or 100 hob. Best bang for the buck.
Coralife 65 super skimmer in sump and hob.

I am looking for a hob skimmer for my 30 rimless or one that will fit I my back chamber that it's rated for a bigger tank.

Francisco,

If money was not an issue, you will be happy with the aquamax. I have the eshopps PSK and it is silent. I dont use the sponge and I dont see any micro bubbles.

Good luck!
