Holding acans

So i learned acans on the sandbed with tangs is a no no. The ends begin receding because sand kicked in them all the time during feeding. What Ive done is placed acan mini colonies above small length pvc pipe. While it does the job, hate seeing pvc. Anyone have a diy or cheap alternative to keeping acans 2-3 inches above the sand?
