Looking down on rock in tank.

When I mounted my light it is slightly biased to the back of the tank.
So I might need to push the rock all the way to the back wall.

I made an outlet box for the tank.
It has 2 zwave switches for controls.
It is then plugged into a GFI I installed in wall.

Switched the pump over to a MJ1200. The pump hums/vibrates and still makes noise. And the waterfall of water from first to second chamber is loud. Flow seems good, still need a display powerhead

How did the lighting on this work out? I just acquired a Oceanic Biocube 29 gallon for free and another member of my local group was giving away a replacement hood for the same and I picked that up as well. I have one of the Black Box LEDs like in your pictures. I am curious how difficult it will be to cut the top out of one of the hoods to DIY modify to allow the LED to be mounted in some fashion into the hood.

My hood was damaged, so I just cut a rectangle and siliconed it in place.
The light is not placed optimal in the tank.
Due to the front lid opening I had to push back.
This tank is for the kids and will probably only add simple to grow corals.
And a low fish load.

If I had a good top, I would have done a retro type kit in it.
So the light placement would be optimal

Just an update on the tank.
I have been knocking the algae off the rocks and letting the filter floss catch.
Change the floss every other day. I am guessing this is why the water is not clear.

It has been over a year running without any major issues.
Compared to my last tank, growth seems much slower.

29gal system, generic LED light, very old.
No skimmer, but have filter rack that I have bags of stuff
Once per month I do a 6gal water change and replace all bags.
Bags are nitrate, phosphate remover and charcoal
Tank is running at 79F
I started to dose reef complete last month.
4 months ago I started having coraline algae on the glass.

I had a green frag of some plate/SPS type coral.
It was a nickle big, now almost 6" It is real high on the rocks.

Other LPS type corals show no growth, actually lost a frog spawn head.

Have 2 small clown fish and a super sized coral banded shrimp.
Some hermits still around from the initial clean-up crew.


So I am looking for a jump start. I am thinking the lighting.
Any other suggestions?

Any clue what the green hard coral is on the top of my rocks?
