homemade weed killer recipe

I was talking to a local reefer about when I delivered bread for 6 years. While driving through town during the wee hours of the morning, there were tons of lovely blue lights emanating from many basements and attics. Judging by how few fish shops are around here and the known drug issues, I'm fairly certain that most of them are grow operations. I was wrong about one, though. The brightest one turned out to be the house my buddy used to live at.

thats usually the wrong color lighting for growing indoor Vegetables. What you would notice would be a yellow amber burning bright light(HPS). Or i guess a 24 hour light cycle for growth(MH). And there are actually people who do legitimately grow food indoors with the same equipment. My buddy got a knock on the door at his farm to see what was going on. He let them in and the cops laughed at him. Nothing but tomatoes peppers beans etc. A couple weeks later he got a letter from the FDA that they wanted to come and inspect his barn to make sure that the food produce was not for sale and was for his own consumption. It was so nice to get organically grown veggies in the winter time till they scared the crap out of him.

And back on topic. I filled my pump sprayer with 2 gallons of your mix Gary and I am giving it a try on various invasive weeds on my property. A couple of questions. Would this be garden safe? Should i be concerned about using this around my compost area weeds. Fearing that when i mow and compost it could amend the organic matter and taint my compost?

Vinegar I'm pretty sure is garden safe and it doesn't kill any roots. I don't think I'd use it while there's plants already in there though. To be safer though I've always just used the boiling water trick. Does the same thing but with less smell and actually kills the roots as well.

there is a smell and from what I've seen this spray appears to kill every type of plant it comes in contact with as everything above ground turns brown, withers and dies.
I haven't been using it long enough to see if roots die as well. I guess it would matter how the vinegar is applied. If you simply spray it on leaves a large deep root might survive. (See #4 in my original post)

Well the misses does a lot of gardening and from what she says is vinegar takes the moisture out of he leaves but the roots have to be pulled up after it turns brown usually in a few hours. Also, Yes is does kill everything, same as water and most other household tactics. IF you put a good dose of vinegar in the soil you "could" potentially kill the root but it depends on the weeds age. Younger plants don't have a good reserve built up to tolerate the conditions so if its a younger weed it should die. Lemon juice is also another method, but who wants to waste a lemon on a weed haha

all good advice

all good advice

except Dandelion wine. YECHHHH!

I noticed that weeds sprayed with vinegar solution WHILE IN FULL SUNSHINE die very quickly while weeds in shade do not

Gary, I see something common popping up in your threads lately Homemade "WEED" and "WEED" whacker, just an obeservation lol

I started to get my garden ready for this year, so I will be trying both the boiling water and the Homemade weed recipe, since I do have vinegar in bulk. I do not want the weeds to choke out my hop plants, they are taking off this year. Looks like I will be brewing lots of beer this fall.

it's THAT time of year

it's THAT time of year

looking around my neighborhood almost EVERYBODY is outside walking the dog or doing lawn and garden stuff.

Can't waste days like these in upstate NY!

Dawn and water mixed at about 1/2 cup per gallon of water is very effective against yellow jackets, wasps and other stinging insect of that variety. We use it around the park and it is a very nice alternative to the pesticides in spray cans. It isn't quite as fast as a commercially available product but yields the same results.

Cut your grass higher, works for me. 3 years with only spot treating weeds and I got 1 dandelion in my front yard. A few more in the back but that is expected because the yard is a mess.

Sounds about right. Also is there a dry dandelion wine? I've heard of sweet but I'd rather have dry haha Even though the idea of dandelion wine still just seems wrong but I'm curious
