hooray for power!

We had about 22 1/2 hours with no juice from yesterday's storm. We ran our tanks with a power inverter and an idling truck. Tough night - one eye on the tanks, the other on the truck in the driveway. It goes to show the depth of our illness - we ran the tanks and not the frig. We rented a generator this morning and made it through the day - tanks, two refrigerators, and a ceiling fan. Yay for TEP - we're back in business. (Not taking the generator back until tomorrow just in case.)

Any other survival stories?

What kinds of generators do you have?

Hooray, Hooray. Thrilled to hear it. We never lost power and I am sorry to know you had to do without. Pat yourself on your back for your preparation!

I'm just glad it all worked out. We've lived here since 1984 and we've never been out more than about 30 minutes. A wire got pulled down by a bog 'ol limb in the park about a block from here. Of course I has said that I'd trade fireworks for a storm. I'm not allowed to say that anymore.

we had a 3 day brownout once, kept everything off because it will burn stuff up. Poured slab built small shelter, 70Amp generator, transfer panel, we can run fridge, cook, Bedroom, living room and ponds. Used to run Swamp too, but with AC it would most of the amps so far never needed to use AC.

we had power but very low, light bulb barely glowed, will burn out fridge, electronics a such. Best to turn everything of but one incandesent bulb (to let you know things are back to norm)

This was about 10+ years ago on NW side, primary wires hit on bridge on Ina by Camino del Tierria due to heavy winds

I'm in NY visiting my family and my mother in law is staying at our house watching our animals and tank. She doesn't know a thing about the tank, inhabitants, or the equipment. I told her to call me with any problems or questions. Needless to say, I had to walk her through everything with the power going out. She did a good job because everything survived. I was about 12 hours without electricity. I'm pretty sure I'm getting a generator when I get back in town.

I lost quite a bit to the power outage because I was out of town. Plan ahead disaster strikes when you least expect it.

Does anyone know how SEA fared? They are a block from me and suffered the same very long power outage. I haven't dropped in to check on them.

a couple years back I was out of power for over two days... I only had freshwater planted tanks then, but I didn't lose a single thing and I didn't compensate for the loss of power... the tanks just sat still and dark for 2+ days.

We didn't do so well. We were out of power the same amount of time as you sillygoose. We lost most of our fish alot of our coral and all the big fish in the show tank. Not to mention all the food we lost. ahhhhhh sad week at SEA. We will bounce back though and look better than ever.

Mike

Did anyone find the cause of this outage yet, seems TEP is keeping it secret? Bad time for outage, with the heat it would take a major gen to pump and cool that place.

In the park about a block from us (me and SEA), a big limb broke and torn down a wire. The wires that were still intact were all sagged together in a bit of a mess. One guy who is on the easement to the park said the transformer behind his house was sparking and hissing before it went dark. At least for us, it was pretty clear what happened.
