I've heard that a long tenticle anoneme will host clowns correct?

I've also heard that captive clown will not take to ANY anoneme. Is this accurate?

I have 2 tank bred perculas and I just bought this real pretty long tenticle. Any chance they'll find peace or home with each other???

LTA is a common name and many times applied to M. doreensis and even H. crispa these are both hosting anemones.

No.
Many will take to an anemone. In the wild they're usually found in specific nems, but many will adopt other types in our tanks. I have read theads though where people had clowns that didn't host. It can be hit or miss, at least with A. occellaris, but I think this is general enough that it applies to percs as well.

If you would like to post a pic of your new nem, you can get a positive ID, this can be helpful for care, and specific questions you may have for this nem. There are also nems with long tentacles that are not hosting nems, or others that are very difficult to keep. In this hobby knowledge is power Be sure to include pics of the underside and foot of the nem too, this is where the most distinctive features are.

Looking at your tank information, it may be a little early for a nem, most people recommend waiting a minimum of 6 months after your tank cycle is done. Keep a close eye on your new nem, if it shows any signs of stress you may want to take it back or see if a local reefer can hold it for you until your tank has matured a bit more. If I have misjudged the maturity of your tank, I apologize, I'm just looking out for these things that can't look out for themselves.

get more quickly i kept one under 130w pc for a while but they need allot of light stick it right under a halide
keep it well fed until you get the light but dont let it go to long like 3 weeks could be too long

i gave it to a clubmember (serpentman) its in his 180 now my maroon loved this nem

Jorgens - kinda off topic, but what LFS do you go to? I'm in that area of wisconsin, as well, and I'm always looking for different places to check out.

I have a pet supply outlet chain here. And in Mil I usually hit Hoffers tropical.
Or up in Green Bay theres Aquatic imports. <- my favriot of the 3 but it's over an hour drive and selection is so so.

Both big city jobs are overpriced and I've found a few gents in the aera that sell frags so I've ben hitting them up.

Nice pics - all of them Jorgens, great shots of what we needed to see, I think if all goes well you'll have a very nice looking nem. We've fed our nems silversides, scallops, and shrimp. Some are picky others not so much, the fun part is finding out

gsmguy - I think we will have to agree to disagree on tank age Going by the 6 month guideline, if he started his tank in Sept., it's only been 5 months, and that doesn't take into account cycle time. It's definately not as bad as setting up a tank yesterday and putting in a nem today, but still a little early according the guidelines we all quote. I'm not saying anything bad will happen, but thought he should know to watch a little more closely than he might have. That's just my opinion though, I've been wrong before

Raoul you are Right its just that i have some experience with m.dorensis and this time a year ago i had one in a 29g with pc lights in a 4 month old tank so have been there i think he will be ok i am just trying to be encouraging even if he is puhing it the tank age thing to me is more like a quidline like the watts per gallon rule that is not really a true definition of how much light the tank age is not the only indicator of wheather livestock should go in

i would watch it very closely

I agree, the 6 months is a guideline, not a set in stone rule, and there are other variables besides time. I also wanted to make sure that other newbies, or people researching didn't get conflicting information either. I think the closer to the 6 month mark you are (assuming all things are going well) the more successful you will be.

Jorgens - If I came across as discouraging, I apologize, that was not my intention. I think every new nem owner needs all the encouragement they can get as well as information I feel like a newbie every time I add a new addition to one of my tanks!

yea i did it at 3 months but i started the tank with perfectly cured rock and live sand and natural sea water so i feel like that added to the sum whole of the age
a year is best for anemones
m.dorensis if fed well is a forgiving anemonebut never really settles until it gets the light it desires mine got to the point where it was extending its foot like 17inches and opening up under my 175w halide with 10k bulb blocking the light from the entire tank these anemones are hungry and they get huge

Now he's moving around. I'm assuming he wants to get settled in and I read they like sand? Should I be condiersate and hellp him down to the sand bed? Or should I let him get there on his own. He's been squirming around in teh corner for 5ish hours.
