How bad is 8 days in a box for live rock?

well at least the nasty crabs problably died also.... LOL...

if they messed up the order are you sure that they will give you credit?

even cured rock needs time to settle after shippping... but at 8 days it will be dry and dead.. meaning no life on it .... still usable though just remeber still will need a good washing

good luck ...

So here's the full story:

My end: Ordered a week ago to get some LR shipped to classroom for Tuesday (zoology club day). Paid standard overnight.

Exotic Fish: Shipped to billing address (home) AND via ground.

My end: Called to question about both shipping address and method

Exotic Fish: Said they would recall the shipment and ship again yesterday (mon) for delivery today.

My end: Checked yesterday and they did ship to correct address, but again, ground. Weird.. No rock for kids today (Tues).

Exotic Fish: Talked to someone named 'Jeff' (THE Jeff??), and he supposedly corrected it all (not reflected in any tracking number yet) and sent yet a THIRD shipment that does at least show both correct address and overnight for tomorrow. So let's hope this works out okay...

I tried 'bargaining' but they wouldn't budge. Oh well. I thought they should have tried to at least thrown in something. He did claim that they were losing money all of this shipping but hey, that's not my fault and I am the one being inconvenienced.

So there's the story!!! Crossing my fingers for tomorrow and 50lbs of hopefully good LR for the classrooms 40 breeder.

I took a biology class at oprf back in 69. We didn't have a reef tank. Just an old teacher who wanted us to be very "Pacific" about everything we observed and wrote down. That and we had to BTK a frog.

I went and student taught at OPRF.. I actually teach at lyons township in western springs. 2:00pm and still waiting for 'standard overnight'... Not happy. I should have just stayed with PA like I have all those years! All for 10 extra pounds! I have been trying to get rock from around here but everyone either JUST Beats me to PM or the person wants to sell the whole lot which I don't need. I saw someone from rockford trying to sell for over $4 a pound and wanted to get rid of all of it, I tried to ask but she wouldn't budge. Oh well, such is life.

The tank right now has about 45lbs of home depot kolorscape sand in it mixed with some crushed coral and a few cups of live sand from home... That's about it... Also, a hungry puffer (I feed him twice a day and he literally attacks the food in my hands!) that needs a new home. I'll probably bring him over to Coral Reef this week. Setup has a 4 bulb teklight t5 fixture, CPR bakpak + refugium. I will definitely need to get a great cleanup crew (Will order from PA!) in the near future. I'll probably stock with reef safe fish which will hopefully be easy to catch for summer moving of fish unless I can get the funds raised for a chiller (it gets hot in these rooms! The freshwater tanks do fine though)

Update: LR added to tank, I might want to get some more pieces though in the near future. Smell wasn't too bad with 2 days in transit. I need to call Jeff's exotic fish to get a refund on shipping since it was delayed a day. They are claiming that I might not be able to get the full refund back which is BS in my opinion especially since FedEx themselves said I should get a full refund. Jeff's exotic fish doesn't mention a box charge on their ordering system so I don't they they should be keeping more than a couple of bucks? What do you think? After all the hassel don't you think that I should just get the full $80+ in shipping? Other than that, I have enough algae on the glass and a filthy enough sand bed to throw in a cleanup crew (once I can give my puffer away).

Mike

you should get free shipping for sure.
Don't add your clean up crew too quick, you can kill them w/ a bad cycle. Make sure your ammonia is in check before thinking about adding your crew.

Mike, this threads had 378 looks and I don't think anyone wants to go through what you did. I'd post the end result of this experience, if it ends as bad as it's been going, will most likely cost Jeff's exotics more than a shipping refund to you.

What kind of puffer do you have? It's not in that same tank is it? Puffers are scaless & have no gill covers. They are very senitive to ammonia/nitrites. No need to feed them 2x/day, unless <1". Most of mine eat every 3 days.

No, it is in another tank, I setup a 20 to hold this rock until I think it's fine. I wonder how long it'll take for it to be 'good'?

Most puffers are like puppies. I named my article on them like that. You really don't need to feed it that much though. Results in a fat fish--fatty liver--early death. Come over at www.thepufferforum.com for lots of puffertalk!
