How big do Maximas *really* get in captivity?

I remember reading in Daniel Knop's book that Maximas can get like 16" long or something??? (I might not have remembered that correctly.) That is just as big as a Squamosa!

But, in your own experience, how big have your maxima clams gotten before you noticed they seemed to "level off" in regards to growth?

I am setting up a 30g tank, and I would hate to have to relocate the clams because they outgrew the tank. I really like how Maximas look (shape of their mantle) compared to Croceas, but I guess I could use Croceas if the Maximas get too big.

About 14".
No kidding?

Got any pics? :D

Well, I might be going with Croceas then... :)

The record is 40cm, but then the record human was 8'11".

25cm is a very big maxima. That would be like someone about 6'4" or 6'5". They can certainly get bigger, but you don't see them very often.

I just got a t. maxima {~2"} and 2 t. crocea {both~3"-4"} for my 30 gallon, so my question is how fast do these species grow under "ideal" conditions? I have a coral life hood with 150watt MH and a 60 watt blue actinic.
H2O Conditions
ca+ ~480
spg 1.024-1.025
ph 8.00-8.30
Nitrite, Nitrate, amonia undectable with tests
Feed with DT's every other day

Guy at LFS said I could probably keep them a couple of years before they get too big. I didn't think that they would grow that fast . . .

BTW: These clams were aquired over several weeks so as not to shock the system.

You have a few years, But yes Maximas will get too big for a 30 gallon eventually, but they are slow growers.

yes be ready to get the maxima a new home. I would say you have around 4-5 years until its gets to big
