How 'bout posting pics of everyone's custom stands

Now sure how mine fares against such auspicious company, but it's not too shabby. Its a light stain on red oak. The 54 corner is not custom, and will be going as soon as the contents finish QT'ing.

Nice !
IMO it needs top molding or crown to finish it off. But thats just me .Also your overflow gave me an idea I like it .

The front half of the hood folds upwards (hinging on the top in the middle), which makes it difficult to do crown molding around the top. The utility was more important than the molding for me, and I think it has a certain monolith quality right now.

Full length external overflows are the best way to go in a tank like this in my opinion. Even without my streams running, there isn't so much as a speck of dust on the surface of the water.

Here's my work in progress... tank is full, but the facing on the stand is not complete.

The whole house is trimmed in alder wood, along with all the customer cabinets. I'm planning to have the stand facia built from alder, and stained to match the house.

No hood planned for the tank.

Yeah I don't think that stand is going anywhere. :D

Looking forward to the pics after you finish facing it.

Thanks for the compliments folks ... James at Envision once said to me a Rhino could stand on his tanks without them flexing.... or, that I could jump up and down on top of it... I figured the stand ought to be worthy!!! ;-)

Having a deep tank is certainly a challenge with placing coral, but the reward is great. My family loves when we get new stuff because my daughter helps hand it to me from the ladder. I don't get into the tank very often because I have a large holding tank in my fish room, and when I acumulate 3-4 pieces worth throwing into the show tank, I place them all at once. I epoxy each piece into place.

Does this count? Its not really a stand.........

[

I think it counts...especiay since this is a custom stand...and the thread is called "how bout posting pics of everyone's custom stands"

:D

Just messin around stlouis guy... Love the tank btw...as you can tell by the posts i made on your thread :D

LOL yeah thanks for the nice comments in the build thread, but it actually isnt a stand as it doesnt support anything, just finishes the tank off well. I think of stands as self supporting items which tanks sit on and this isnt.

looks good stloouisguy. nice to have someone else do the work too, huh? wish I could! :)

Jim- your's looks solid. Clean and simple, doesn't take away from the tank.

Look out dial up!

Look out dial up!

I agree with clwrk, I like the look of crown molding around the top. Having the front panel hinge up does complicate things, but it can be done.

Here is is open and with the end panel removed.

Here is the frame that is supporting the mahogany "skin"

It will replace this one but will retain the wall mounted hinge.

This is the original stand, which was under my 110.
110Stand.jpg

I added this section to it, so it would fit my 180.

Here it is after being modified.

Here is the back of the stand.

The canopy is going on this tank, replacing the "temporary" canopy I got with the tank - 2 years ago.

The master plan will have a cabinet enclosing the shelf on the right side of the tank, and closet between the existing stand and the wall on the far right.
