How 'bout those Maxi Jet Mods anyone

Was reading about them. For around $40 you can have a 2400gph pump. Just wondering about them, don't seem to hear a lot of people using them. Just wondering if this kit is anygood or not. Basically you buy a new MJ1200 for $20 and a kit for another $25 and in 5 minutes you get a new pump that is suppose to be comparable (in the MFG's words) to Seio's or Tunze streams. I am curious, so I have to ask about these.

I don't know, but I do know that I love my Tunze 6100 so much that I am thinking about getting another one and putting on the other end of my 120, not that it needs it at all, but I have seen people that have two of them and it is really neat, almost looks like you are looking at a reef in the ocean with all the currents.

I'm thinking about modding my mj900. My understanding is that a trip to Hobby Lobby will cost much less than the $25 kit. New shaft, propeller, and some PVC pipe that I have lying around. I may try it this weekend. If so I'll let you know.

I left a kit I bought off of an individual at Jo-Mars months ago... I was not overly impressed with it. Unless Ron got rid of it, or took it home, it is probably still down there. The dude I bought it from didn't support the product very well at all. This was NOT a product from MJMODS, & I got it for $25. The kit was built using a CNC Router, & it wasnt cut out as well as I would have hoped. The type of motor in the MJs apparently will spin left or right with these mods, so thy have to have a built in stop to make the fan hit the stop & reverse to blow water out in the right direction. The kit I bought, the fan would hit the stop & just get stuck.

Wayne built his own & it worked fine I believe. The ones from MJMODs might work fine. Seems though for $45 you could spend a few more bucks ^ get a seio. I jsut dont have much faith in it, after my experience.

IMO after seeing the mod, it's somewhere in the back of the shop I think, is that they in no way deliver what is promised. If you have a 10 or 12 gallon tank sure they would be fine but anything larger IMO would be a waste of money that could be spent on a reliable alternative. Yes they do break up flow into more of a "stream" but don't let this fool you into thinking they are in anyway producing the kind of flow a Tunze or even a large seio could provide, they will not live up to that expectation. As a fun DIY project it is fine for nanos but for a large tank do yourself a favor and save up for a real system.

I made one of the mods. It works well. The cost difference makes it attractive. The more you make the cheaper they are to build.
The mods for the Aquaclear 802's looks even better but I have not tried it yet. I dont have any motivation to make them since i dont have a Reef. If anyone would like to supply a Powerhead I'd enjoy moding it.

I made everything from scratch using a dremel. I dont buy kits. It takes all of the challenge out of it.
