How did you convince your spouse to wash filter socks on washing machine

Thanks.. He was born Dec 26th so if we made it this long without having a blowout I guess that does deserve a congrats :)

Back to your question..

When I use a filter sock (maintenance only and rarely if that) I always just rinse it out well in the sink under the faucet then hang it to dry outside..

Lol yea you do. My little man was born 11/4 and I don't think we made it two weeks before a huge blowout.

OT, washing machines are made to clean things. Why bother asking at all?

My get wash with the dirty socks and 'tank cleaning cloths' when:

1. She is asleep.
2. At night.
3. On vacation.
4. The second Tuesday of each week

Seriously, they call it a washing machine for a reason. It gets dirty things clean.

P.S. Congrats mcgyvr!

best solution to this is to buy a counter top washing machine

just search countertop or mini washing machine on amazon

I use to hand wash them when I lived at my parents' house, but since I have moved out, I stopped using them. If I ever go back, I plan on washing them with my "work" clothes. The fiancee doesn't mind at all.

huh never worried about that, between the kid and the almost 50 animals the amount of poop that gets run through our washing machine actually almost qualifies it as a septic removal plant.

Even aside from straight up poop, the washing machine gets dirty socks and underwear all week long. But we're gonna worry about a little aquarium dirt?

I dont actually use filter socks any more but this thread continues to make me laugh :)

Lol this is thread is just too much, I had to read it all. I put what I want in the washing machine, the hubby dosent care cus he's a typical guy. I don't care because we both work in the water and wastewater water industry, if fish waste is the worst that goes in that thing it was a good day at work ;)

I do it myself, my wife understands the need to keep everything clean with the price of saltwater reefing. How clean and its been working great is 3 caps of regular unscented bleach. I put the washing machine on heavy mode, warm water and rinse repeat cycle and regular spin cycle too get the sock dry when it comes out. If the sock still smells of bleach I put it through rinse and spin cycle only.
1 year now and no issues. FYI boy do they come out clean and white I might add I don't rinse them out before they go into the machine.
GOOD LUCK

Tell her there is no chance of her catching anything. Seriously fish diseases don't communicate to us, and the machine drains water away, including human dirt, which is FAR more contagious to us. Do this, if you use a machine (I do.) No soap, nada, plain water wash, and I put all the socks in plus a clean bathtowel that's not had any fabric softener on it. This gives the wash weight and 'tooth' enough to get the socks clean. If she worries, run the towel again without the socks, but with soap, and that will clean her washing machine.

I do a 5 gallon water change every 3 days. I clean the sox at the same time. I use mesh sox. Clean them under the faucet, swirl them around in the bucket of used tank water that I just drained to dilute any chloramine then right back in.
Cheers! Mark

Easy...mywife doesnt do the laundry I do. Also as been said earlier when she found out my only remark was “Babe...we have two kids” her response “yea enough said”. Kids are way dirtier than my tank lol. Ones in diapers potty “training” which really means “thanks for teaching me how to take my diaper off easily” my other hes 4 and anyone with a boy knows how amazingly quick they get dirty. Filter socks in the wash is like my washing machine getting a relaxing break from work.
