How do clowns sleep?

Well, I know fish do sleep, but how? My Clarkii just found his BTA today and I'm so excited! Its now 2:03 AM and he is still rumblin around in his anemone. Is he gonna sleep? My other clowns in the tank start the normal bobbing motion about 30 minutes after lights out every night so I guess they are sleeping then but the Clarkii isnt. I've only had him for 2 days but just wondering if he will be tossing and turning all night?!

My clowns go to the low-flow corner of the tank and just kind of hover. Occassionally they will flip their fins to steady themselves, but mostly float in the water in the corner.

they sometimes will be restles in order to attract a mate to nest. its the mateing signal. once another accepts, they have their little territory. and they will become agressive of that spot, (BTA) they will begin mateing. the male will fight any fish that gets to close. REEF-ON!!!

xtrstangx, 100% pure silicone only. others have different chemicals that may leach into the system. also, if its not pure it want have the holding capabilities. besides tanks dont mold. REEF-ON!!!

GE I W&D is 100% pure silicone. It won't leech anything, I've used it in multiple setups and there hundreds upon hundreds of people who have used it on Reef Central without ill effect. GE II released it's Bio-seal so that you don't have to recaulk your windows and doors due to mold, however the anti-mold chemical in the silicone will leech out.

Most professional tank builders use GE silicone and 99.9% chance that AGA's silicone is just repackaged GE silicone.

Yeah, I was wondering that myself. Anyway, back to this post. . .My maroon is constantly wiggling or even thrashing around in her anemone at night. I think she's actually asleep. It makes me wonder if they may lose some of their immunity to the anemone sting even over the course of one night and therefore constantly rub against it. Even without an anemone, though, they seem to be constantly moving.

well i dont know why everyones clowns seem to move around at night but my true perc and black O. just lay down inside there little rock cave without any movement for basicly the whole night. ive actually thought they were dead on more than one occasion. they never cease to amaze me.

My clowns would constantly hover for the first couple of yrs. Now, if I am up earlier than them, I see them both snuggled in their mushroom not moving at all.

You sure bout' that?

I'm no expert but I'm not sure thats how it works. It is much more complicated than that. They don't look for mates while they are sleeping. There is a whole lot of gender bending that takes place first and then....well its complicated but yeah you get the jist.

my clownfish goes to sleep is only two spots everysingle night, hes either at the top corner of the tank next to the protein skimmer powerhead or perched up against a piece of live rock

my blue stripe & redsea sleeps together in the same carpet anemone but once the light is on, they continue fighiting and the bigger blue stripe kicks the redsea out :)

Guess that proves you can sleep together but you will still fight LOL

Vaporize, I would love to see a pic of your blue stripe. Are you talking about a.chrysopterus or is this a clarki species.

thanks

Hi ezhoops, I would love to take a picture, this is a chryso one not the clarkii one from Tonga. Originally got a pair but the big one died of velvet, so I treated the small one in a QT with copper for over a month and cured it. Now put it in my display tank and host in my blue carpet. However now there are some parts of it having holes and it's scratching its gills on the nearby corals.... seems like chyrsopterus really comes with alot of diseases and need more extensive QT and de-illness ... I think only mine survived out of that LFS shipment, they brought in 20 or so of them. Will post pics later (probably a new thread) for 'hole thing' diagnosis.

cheers, vapo
