How do I catch crabs lol

Well my emerald crab came out of molting hiding today and OMGOSH HE IS HUGE!!! he gets SO much bigger with each molt. When I feed the tank, he like masacres and destroys anything I put in there. I am afraid of him in there now with my small fish. How do I get him out. He knocks everything over too. should I use like a bottle with the front cut off like for shrimp? Or should I do it at night or what?

Do you know where he is? is he in a rock that you can take out? if he is fresh water dip.

If not I will try the bottle with the front cut off method but I prefer to use a glass.

I caught my emerald by luring them out with a piece of fish on the end of a piece of rigid airline tubing. They came right out after it. When I lured them in range, I grabbed them with long tweezers. It worked great, I caught two of them that way. You can do it in the daytime. When you get the smelly fish near them, they come right out after it, they can't resist it.

Yep. Cought the one I had by placing a tiny piece of shrimp in the bottom of a clear glass too.. seems to work great! I laughed when I read your post-- been there done that, da*n thing made me have to fix his wreckage every morning!

I've caught a couple of them by just grabbing them. You can use the jar trick though if your emerald's not confining himself to being an herbivore - put bait in a peanut butter (or whatever) jar, lean it against the rock you think he's in and wait. He'll climb in to eat and not be able to climb out. Doesn't work so well if you have shrimp and you might have a jar full of nassarius snails too.
