how do mushrooms "naturally" frag?

what is the natural process for mushrooms when they "reproduce"?
I ask because one of my largest mushrooms began to split down the middle. It completed the split over the course of 3-4 days and is now two seperate mushrooms that are smaller than the original was. The "torn" edges where they used to be joined look to be in fine shape with only slight jaggies. The two new halves form their own little normal circles, so they dont look like half a slice of pizza or anything. Is this just how it goes?

That looks normal to me. Ive seen a few of my shrooms split. Some do it fast and recover and look like a regular mushroom pretty fast and ive had some to take a while.

How long has this taken so far ?

I've got a rock covered in purple/green and red mushrooms. One of the purple/green ones has had two mouths since we got the rock about 5 weeks ago. I assume one day the twins will split up but for now I think it's cool the way it is. :)

i first noticed that it had started splitting on monday morning i think, so its been about 6 days now. Theyre doing great this morning and its pretty much all healed up on both splits. pretty cool stuff

your salinity is a bit hight IMO....027 should be the highest. and a pH of 8.5 is not bad but staying below 8.5 is best IMO

heh, that SG is the result of me using a swing-arm since i bought the tank. Just invested in a refractometer on monday, man-oh-man, those things dont get enough talk.
Im really glad i bought it and dont know why i didnt just get one when i setup the tank. People say its a prohibitive initial expense (40$?). But they dont call it a saltwater tank just so i can go and half-*** meseaure the SALT part of it.
