How do you grow Chaeto for food?

I want to grow chaeto and use it as a food source for my tang and foxface. Can someone tell me the best way to grow it? I have a fuge running off the main tank but to not want to feed macro growing in the fuge to the fish.

lfs recommended iron supplement; lights; put a small liverock in my 10g QT tank and away you go. Is it that easy?

Thanks

It should do fine in a illuminated QT. I'm not really sure why you would need the LR. When you do a water change use the tank water to replace the water in the QT. That should provide fertilizer for the Chaeto in itself.

Somehow, I'm doubting that your fish will find Chaeto to be a tasty snack. I have never tried it though.

DgenR8,

I bought a small ball of chaeto and put it in the main tank while I setup the QT. My Tang and Foxface went right after it. They had nori to choose from at the same time so I'm pretty sure they think it's tasty.

Just keep light on the chaeto and it will grow.

I had the same thing happen. I bought some chaeto while waiting to set up my fuge. Well my Foxface and purple tang went to town on it and I needed to buy more once I got the fuge set up.

Now, when it is time to prune the chaeto in the fuge I just rinse it in fresh RO water and then add it to the display tank for a treat.

Thus far it hasn't had any negative impact on the systemor fish.
