How do you kill a montipora?

So i have a situation...... My (undata?, i have no clue what kind) montipora is growing out of control. It suffocating the other corals next to it by growing next, and then 90 degree up and over it. This morning i broke about 70% of it off but there is still some left. I tried using a scalpel and pray it open from the bottom up but no luck. Its releasing some slime right now but it will heal up within a few days and back on killing my other corals. Not sure how to completely remove it from the rock (it grew to about 1/4" thick when i broke it off).

I have used epoxy smeared over the top of encroaching monties. Did the trick. after a few days, I scraped the epoxy of the rock. and all that remained was dead encrusting monti. I will hav e to do it again soon, as the coral is startin g to get too close to an acro. Never ending battle

The epoxy trick should work or you can make a paste with Kalk and turn off all the flow and place the Kalk paste on the monti

Take it out and share with some other reefers. No point of killing it. I'm sure someone local would trade u for a live rock to replace the space.

Just roll out putty like a sheet and smother it :) I had 2 encrusting monti's that were taking over rocks...i drained my tank till they were out of the water, and totally encased them in putty. Now i have more room for acropora frags :)

I keep a few hydnophora frags (I'm probably spelling that wrong) on hand for just this purpose. Any time I have an unwanted SPS encrusting too far on the rocks just put one of those frags on top of it and the next day the hydno has killed it. Completely safe and natural :D

You mean like cover it with a thin layer of putty?

If so thats gonna take quite a few putty in this case :eek2:

Hahaha awesome

You can easily pry them off the rock with a razor blade them just remount them on frag plugs and spread them around. I've done this with my sunset monti a number of times.

Btw here is a pic of the monti, just imagine this x5 and this is how it look before i chopped it off.
