How do you know if you have to much flow?

How do I know if my hammer is getting to much flow? or any other LPS for that matter.

if it's fully open you're probably fine, if it's closed up you might want to dial it back. the recommendation ive heard is for the polyp to move in a circle 1-2 times per sec

I just added frogspawn and a torch and had to redirect my mj1200 (300gph) and they have both expanded a ton since then. I have about 900 gph turnover on a 55 gallon tank. 2 mjs pointed up and a HOB with the LPS on the sand. So far, so good! But I haven't had them very long either.

Mine don't extend, if the flow is not of their liking. The branching hammers have flow, that slightly moves tentacles aside. Same for branching frogspawns.
