How do you mount frags to your live rock.

Hey sps keepers, I am new to sps corals and have a few frags i would like to mount to my live rock. Can you guys give me some suggestions on how to do this. They are currently on plugs. I would like to take them of the plugs. thanks everyone!

If the frags are encrusted, i would just use a pair of cutters and snap the tee off the plugs, then mount the disk using epoxy to your LR

I don't like cutting encrusted frags off of plugs.

just two part stuff from Lowes....think it's water weld made by jb weld

A mix of super glue and epoxy is a great way to attach frags.

I have been very impressed with the ELOS glue as a stand alone product. I have a sample of it and it works very well.

I snip off extension on the plug, then squirt some superglue on the bottom of the plug, then press on some epoxy, followed by another squirt of superglue on the epoxy, then press the whole works onto the liverock in the tank. Works great. Using just epoxy or just superglue doesn't work nearly as well for me.

+1 on using both glue and epoxy. I dab glue on the bottom then put epoxy then another dab of glue on the bottom of the epoxy and then push into the rockwork. Just be very careful not to get your fingers close to the glue when placing the coral. the glue on your fingers will end up on the coral too and make a mess. And I agree that if the coral is encrusted on the plug I wouldn't snip it off. Just cut the bottom of the plug with a dremel or snips and put it all in. If its not encrusted I usually break it off the plug and mount it directly to the rock

I actually drill holes to my live rock and good enough to fit frag plug and works well without using any glue or anything,in time,it will just encrust the live rock.

So every time you get a new frag you pull your LR out and drill it?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I think im going to try the superglue then jb then superglue again. Im going to try this friday. Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks again!

Simple answer is for SPS, I don't (other then encrusting types)

Every non encrusting coral gets mounted to a rock that gets drilled and pegged. The size of the rock varies based on the corals growth needs. I predrilled my live rock with about 300 holes to mount corals. If I find I still need another hole, I'll remove the rock and drill it some more to accomodate the specific need.

I've been through huge growth patterns, AEFW, red bugs etc and found it much easier to plan ahead and assume that all corals will at some time need to be pulled to; relocate, frag or treat. In some cases if coral requires a larger rock the rock wont get pegged but I usually cut the rock flat on one side.
