That is my understanding. You may need to invest in an adjustable flow control. Then you can adjust your waste output to get that 1:4 ratio. You also may have a problem with lower water pressure in your house, which might benefit from a booster pump of some sort.
All I know is that 4 gallons of waste water being produced per 1 gallon of useable water is unacceptable. Especially if I am constantly making water for water changes. I want to either decrease the waste being created up front, or somehow utilize that 4 gallons of waste water by putting it back in the main system again...or using it SOMEHOW....
I don't use that much RO. When I want 5 gallons, I just put the end of the waste water tubing into my washing machine and let it collect there. It only partially fills the machine. I can usually get about 10 gallons of clean RO per wash load of waste water. I take the tubing out when I turn the machine on.
The clothes clean just fine. The waste water is only used in the first sudsing part anyway. The clothes are then rinsed in tap water as usual.
Yeah..so why don't people just get one of these???? Here is a cheaper one here: http://www.aquariumplants.com/cgi-bin/cart/kent914.html
Same unit...and this is basically the same price is many of the ebay RO/DI units after shipping....but this has no waste water. This looks to me to be a much better option than a RO/DI unit...am I missing something???

You guy got me thinking. If I get a 55 galon drom and mount it above my mixing drum. then I can route the waste water in to it and use it to feed the downstais toilet which just happens to be right behind that wall where my mixing drum is. That way I also have an emergancy water supply for the next earth quake to hit So CA.
