How do you prevent algae growth?

I just downgraded to a 10g nano and since I'm starting fresh, I want to start off right.

I seem to always have issues with hair algae in my tanks. What has worked for you? I always use RO/DI water.

Phosban?
Cleaning crew?
Lighting?
Feeding?

Nothing in particular? For example, I don't plan on using Phosban because of the expense and additional equipment. But if it really makes a big impact, I'll consider it.

Probably the biggest issue's are extra nutirents in the water causing the GHA(proper filtration) , photoperiod also, and of course you always have to have a good clean-up crew.

Phosban never seems to get "rid" of hair algae. I used animals to solve that issue.(Emerald crabs, mexican turbos, etc.)

Thanks :)

What do you guys have for your photoperiod over your nanos? I just set my 70w MH to 8 hours today.

I'd suggest a fuge...either a AC110 or AC70.....I have a brand new AC110 (still in shrink wrap)that i got for xmas that i'll sell to you for $30....just an FYI

I had a 20g fuge on my old 40g with more cheato than would fit in a shopping bag. Only have one maroon clown, didn't stop the algae. Only fed every 3-4 days too.

The key is to harvest the cheato when the area gets too full.....i harvest mine once a month. I have an AC110 on my 20 and don't have really any problems in my tank. Cheato grows faster when there is less, or so i hear.
