How does the Apex temp probe work?

I'm trying to communicate a water level to my Apex and have a free temp outlet. I thought of using a heating element with a feedback loop to actually convert my reading to a temp but I can only go up that way. Is it measuring an impedance like a thermocouple?

i believe it is a simple thermistor.

There are three possibilities that I know of - a thermistor-type device, a thermocouple, and a digital device like these. Thermistors and thermocouples usually only need 2 wires. The apex connector looks like it has 4 wires (I can't tell for sure, though), so it could be any of the above. If you have a probe, you could try taking a volt meter to it to see if you can get a reading.
