How fast does a clam grow?

Cool on the maximas. Trust me, a 16 to 17 inch clam while amazing, takes up ALOT of real estate in a tank.

Ya, but what a show piece it would be. A beautiful blue mantal 17" long and around 10" or 12 " wide. WOW!

one of the guys in our local club has a 2 foot wide giga.there is a pic that shows it from the side of the tank and it is wall to wall(a huge purple tang is swimming over it)

Im not sure I can believe thats two feet. You're telling me that purple tang is just shy of 1 foot? And those astrea snails are 2+ inches?

dude the tank is 24"front to back,and that pic was taken in 06.your eyes must be bad,the tang is around 6-7".look at the snail on the back wall next to the clam,its about 1".use your eyes buddy plus i have seen the clam in person so YES it is that big.

checkinhawk, no need to get all defensive on what size the clam is.

You said this was a gigas clam checkinhawk? Its very beautiful and looks like it is almost 2 feet, still has another 2 feet to go before it reaches full size.

yeah its a gigas,he didnt grow it from a small one he bought it after it was over 12".it is soooooo huge it almost seems fake.i almost bought a baby gigas the other day,it was like 2-3".

These are my clams with pics when I got them and now
gigas 2005 it was about 2.5-3 inches now getting close to 12

now

Maxima 1.5"-2" 2004 now about 3" (not a fast grower)

now (sorry about the HA)

Derasa 2005 about 3" now it's around 6 or 7

now (lower left of the tank), no matter where I put this guy ends up right up to the glass parallel, if I try to move to another location get's mad and it will gap HUGE so I gave up and leave there.

Crocea 2004 about 4" now about 6" (not a fast grower)

Hope this helps, also it's hard to keep up with CA and ALK levels with large clams, I need a CA reactor soon
