How important is wavebox filter sponge.

Hi Roger,
I was wondering if removing the wavebox filter sponge would cause any problems.
Thanks,
Sean

It is just a noise dampner, it should be on the back of the pump and not filter the water.

Sean, the sponge help reduce the vibration from the pump and keep it inplace. You can remove it if you like and it won't affect the performance...

Now i understand why you did not get any wave after you took it apart for cleaning :D

Should the sponge cover anypart of the shroud inside the box?

Also should the "non-vented" portion of the shroud should be on the bottom?

Reef doug, the sponge not suppose to cover any part of the shroud and the non vented portion should be on the bottom....

ROFL!

I bought my wavebox from someone who had bought it for a future tank, but then changed gears. It came with the sponge over the shroud ... figured it was supposed to be.

Now i wonder if the non vented part of the shroud cover is up top, or bottom.

I guess i know what i'll be taking apart tomorrow. lol

Wizmaster, you are not the only one who has the sponge over the shroud or having the non vented part facing up :D. I learn most of this from making mistake myself . There is a few adverse affect if you have the sponge covered the shroud or having the non vented part facing up.

Lack of performance, pump work extra hard to suck water through the sponge = potential to prematurely burn out.

If you have the non vented part facing up could lead to slow water entering the box, lower water level inside the box, produce air due to lack of water if you have it on faster pulsing
