How Is This Macro Lens On Canon ELOS...?

Getting set up in a decent camera setup, and talking to friend that is selling some stuff...

How would a Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 auto focus macro lens be, on a Canon ELOS body, for taking in tank pics...?

I am assuming auto focus means it's capable of auto, but still is manually focusable?

I'm learning, but from the basics I know, a 2.8 lens would allow photography in lower light, correct? How much more limited is the 3.5...?

I think (for the cost) this lens would probably serve me well, but would love some feedback, considering how little I truly know...!

No replies yet, so I'll start off. The Tamron 18-200 wouldn't be considered a Macro lens. It only can focus to 1.5 ft, with an image size of only 1:3.7 (0.27 magnification). A macro normally will give you 1:1. That said, you should be able to take tank photos with it and get good results. Assuming that your camera is not full frame, the focal range for the lens will need to be adjusted: an 18-200mm lens is roughly equivalent to a 28-320mm on a film or full-frame body (since the smaller sensor on non-full frame cameras crops out the center part of the image). There's a lot of info on RC about taking macro tank photos. You will use manual focus (the camera will have a way to disable AF). And you will need a tripod. Also, be aware of depth of field issues, especially at wide-open f-stops.

I'm assuming you mean EOS. I have the 100mm 2.8 macro lens and it basically rocks. Take a look at that one if you want to get into close ups.

I do not recommend the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 unless you are strapped for cash. Canon 100 f/2.8 all the way!

I am also assuming you meant "EOS" and by "in tank pics" you don't mean physically putting the camera in the tank for closeups, as some others have done.

+2 on the canon 100mm f/2.8 lens. I also use this one and it's a great lens! I don't have any experience with the tamron though.
