How long before clowns sex?

I bought 2 clowns about 2 months ago.

They were tiny....about 1/2 inch long. They're now about 1 inch long.

They are the same size. I'm not noticing any type of aggressive behaviour on either one of them.

Could it take many months before they figure out between themselves who's the boy and who's the girl?

Are you good with measurements? How'd you get ahold of 1/2" clownfish, a local breeder? In my limited experience, I'd guess they'd be a minimum of 1.5" before they start becoming mature... maybe closer to 2". But each may be different - and many wait a couple years before they start breeding. I think I bought my ocellaris at a little over 2" and at 1.5". It was some time before the 1.5" guy even started to react to the dominance game (except for being chased from time to time). After he was ready, he started playing/fighting and it took over a year and a half of owning them before they started spawning. So, be patient. :)

Being so close to the same size it may take a while. Every time I pair clowns I always purchase a decent size single clown then after a little while I'll introduce the smallest clown I can find. The little guy usually submits immediately when the large clown rushes it. After that, I just let nature take its course.

There really isn't an exact science that i hear or know of that tells you the time frame when a male turns female... Size is the key... Any clowns that are under 1.5" to me is immature males and from 1.5-2.5 would be mature breed-able males... Anything over 3" I can safely say its a producing female. Remember this is my way of guessing and I have a good enough percentage that I can say works for me. This is only works for occellaris and percula as those are my clowns of choice. If it was easy to have clowns breed in a year time frame from birth then the market would be flooded and breeding pair would be cheap to buy but this isn't the case in my experiences.

Ok so no I'm not good at eyeballing. I just re-measured and my two clowns are about 1" long.

When you say "some time before he started to react to dominance game"......you talking a few months or 7-8 months or?

I mean....it's a 100% "sure thing" that these two clowns who are of the same species, and whom I purchased "as a pair" from the life fish store....are going to eventually sex themselves?
