How long for bacteria?

My 125 is about done cycling. It's time to set up my qt and make my first fish purchase. QT will be bare bottom, heater, powerhead, and a canister filter. I know the impression people have of canisters, and if dilligent in their upkeep, they are fine, and it's temporary. I'll be seeding the canister with ceramic media that I currently have in my sump. The question I have is this: How long does the media have to sit in my sump to be "saturated" with good bacteria? It's only been there a day now and that doesn't seem like enough. but I honestly have no clue.

I'll also be filling the QT partially with water from the DT.

Any Ideas?
