How old is your firefish? I can't seem to keep one to save my life for some reason. Longest I've kept one is a week max. Eating fine one day and the next day it went away to meet Jesus :fun2:

What's your secrets and how long you've had one?

I had a happy and eating Helfrichi about one year, then he went to a bottom corner of the tank one day and was dead the next. I don;t know why he died, but he ate readily and hung out in the open above my rockscape all the time.

I had a pair of purple fire fish that did well together for about a year and a half, then they started kicking the crap out of each other once a month or so, then one died at about 2 yrs and the other one lived for about 6 more months, and that is the honest to god truth.

No secrets other than I feed several times a day. I purchased my Fire fish 0n 12-2-09 so it will be 4 years this Dec.

The only one I have ever had is the one I've had for about 9 months. He's (?) in a 30 gal mixed reef cube with a cleaner shrimp and a barber pole goby. It's a very peaceful tank and from everything I've read about them, they are very skittish and would probably get really stressed if in a more boisterous tank. He has a favorite cave but is mostly out and eats like a pig. I would actually like to add one more small fish but I'm too afraid I would upset his zen.

What???????? Brain does not compute. This is the longest I heard anyone kept one for that long. Most usually belly up in less than a year. So what's ya secret :spin2:

I've had mine for almost 2 years. It was the second fish that I put in my tank. I didn't realize that they are difficult to keep. It's in the tank with a number of wrasses and anthias and I feed my fish several times a day.

In my old tank, I had a purple firefish for about 3 years and then I sold it with the tank. When I set up my current tank about 1.5 years ago I added a red firefish which is still alive and about a year ago I added a Helfrichi which is also alive.

The only thing I can recommend is add them before any aggressive fish, I always try to add them as one of my first fish and leave them for a while so they get comfortable.

I've had mine for over a year (year and a half almost?). He seems to eat more planktonic small bits than my other fish, but also eats flake, pellet, and mysis. He used to be very shy, always in a little cave, but now is very visible almost always (even with lights off)

My purple firefish is around 2 years old. He's kept in a mixed tank but mostly peaceful. He's always out in the open. Eats a mix of pellets, mysis, cyclops, and live pods.

I had 4 for a little over 2 years. And then upped to a group of 10 for the past 10 months. When my tank crashed at the beginning of the month 3 of them survived the crash and the fallout and are doing well.

I have had mine for 1 1/2 years. Had 3 for about a year, now I have two. I never knew they were hard to keep.

N. magnifica X 8 months. First fish added to tank (along with Royal Gramma). They have been bullet proof so far. Survived my newbie mistakes.
