How long to QT an anemone to prevent fish diseases

You don't need to.
Depending on the anemone species (S.Gigantea, S.Haddoni and H.Magnifica) and you're unsure about their health it is safer to QT them in case you have to treat them with antibiotic.

If you look over the first thread:

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2271385

You will see some guidelines.

You should only treat/medicate sick anemones. With that being said you should start in the QT and observe and watch. This will also give you a chance to do a few WC to remove any issues with previous water.

From what I have seen on average QT for at least 7 days. While some say 3 and others more, it depends on the anemone and what you observe.

What type did you get?

Any pictures?

Do you mean Seachem Reef Dip?

I know it says it is ok for an anemone... That one just scares me. Other hard items I agree on.

That is just my opinion.

Hey Worm, Yes Seachem reef dip. I haven't had any problem with it so far, but, like I said that's just me. =)

Id be scared to dip it. Im being paranoid, but just in case theres any crypto on it. Figured in three days it would go to free floating stage. Its a heteractis Magnfica. Ill get some pics tomorrow.

Worm I quickly looked at that sticky, but as you suspected did not read all the pages.

It is ok. It is hard to make a thread and then go back and update just the first post. Sometimes people make notes like "Read post 23 for update."

As the forums get better and better things will change.

Keep on reefing!

I think anemone does not carry fish disease. However the water that come with the anemone may. If you want to prevent fish disease, just make sure you don't add any of the water to the tank. Once you finish drip the anemone, just use tank water to "wash the anemone" a few times. I would fill the container with the anemone until the water cover it, then discard that water, fill it again, then discard the water. If you do this three to 5 times, the chance that the anemone addition cause fish disease to your tank is extremely low, if not nonexistent.

If you do a few days of QT with a good 50% WC daily, it will wash out anything that it has inside it too.

If it's a known to be infected tank, follow, the time frame for fish. Ich 72 days, Brook 4-6 weeks for example. If its from a low risk tank, few days with water changes sounds great.

All it takes is one cyst or parasite and you'll really have some fun treating the DT. They won't directly attach the nem, but can be brought over on the rock or the water inside/outside the Nem.

Nice colors!

If it is a well run disease free tank then just wash it a few times. If it is a tank with disease then I remove the anemone from the rock and put it in your tank after a few wash. That rock should not be hard to separate from the anemone.

I think on the continuum of risk of inverts carrying in a fish disease, anemones are at the very lowest end being entirely soft bodied. Not impossible, of course, but I do as OrionN suggested earlier to ensure that a minimum of shipping water gets into my tank.

I bought it from a fellow reefer so I'm not sure what the risk is. I doubt he had brook because he had other fish alive. Having trouble getting it off the rock. Any suggestions. I tried ice on the foot, but it barely did anything. Would you suggest aiming a low powered Pump at its base?

By the way I followed Orion's set up guide for setting up the tank. All the equipment is behind a plastic screen
