How long to settle???

I just adde 50lb of sand (standard sand, not live) to my 55 gallon about 30 minutes ago and the water is still pretty orange. Anyone know how long it usually takes to settle?

Any insight? It was basic Lowes playsand. I'm just scared that it may have dyed the water orange or something!!!!!

It might take a few days. Once there's live rock in the tank, bacteria will help clear the water by weighing down dust.

When I added sand it would take anywhere from 5 to 10 hours.

Would running the filter help ANY? I know if might hurt the filter, but dust can't be too bad. Won;t it get caught in the carbon part of the filter?

How long did it take for the sand dust to FINALLY settle?

I was almost ready to dump out 55 gallons of RO water and 50lbs of salt.

I will update in the morning and see what the tank looks like.

BTW, VERY VERY NICE TANK. I am jealous.

It will settle in 24-36hrs. Having good water flow will help it settle. You would think it would continue to stir it up, but it helps.
